Inflatable Rafts Offer Multiple Advantages over Traditional Boats

Inflatable rafts have many advantages over regular boats when fishing or shooting the rapids. These rafts are even the preferred boats for the U. S. Coast guard and the U. S. Navy for seek-and-rescue missions.

One of the major advantages that inflatable rafts have over regular boats is the amount of storage that they require when not in use. When deflated, most of these models can be stored on a shelf in a garage or even a spare room. They do not entail all the added expense that a regular boat does with its storage and mooring fees. Maintenance and upkeep is also a lot easier with an inflatable boat.  Other than occasional repairs for holes or tears, your raft needs little upkeep. Just make sure that it is always dry when you put away to prevent the fabric from rotting and your inflatable raft should last you for years.

Transportation with inflatable rafts is much less of a hassle also. Most rafts can fit easily into the trunk of all but the smallest cars. These rafts usually come in a backpack and can be carried long distances away from the road. This allows you to have access to waterways that you wouldn’t be able to get near with a traditional boat.

Most inflatable rafts combine a number of air chambers so if one gets a leak, you can still remain afloat. These craft are also able to take on water without sinking. This feature enables these rafts to retain much more buoyancy than traditional boats, especially on rough waters.

You can purchase relatively inexpensive rafts from general retailers such as Wal-Mart or Target, but you should keep in mind that you get what you pay for. While these rafts may be suitable for the still water of lakes and ponds, they may not hold up in white water or fishing in areas with rocky shore lines. These brands tend to be torn to shreds when colliding with sharp rock formations. To buy a quality inflatable raft, you may be better off spending a little extra money and purchasing your raft from a sports store or online inflatable boat retailer.

There are many styles of inflatable rafts on the market today. You first need to decide what activities that you want to enjoy with your raft to help choose the appropriate model for you. Floating rafts can be used to row across a placid lake for fishing or relaxation while there are sturdier rafts that are designed with heavy-duty urethane that can stand up to bouncing off rocks while white water rafting. If you plan on using your raft to take diving expeditions with all the necessary equipment or to stand up while fishing, you may want to invest in a model that has a sturdier floor. For fishing in shallow water, there are models that have holes in the floor that you can dangle your legs through. With the use of swim fins, you can paddle the raft manually while leaving your hands free to fish. This feature allows you to “walk” upstream if you wish to.

Because of the less amount of time spent on caring for them, you will have more time to enjoy your inflatable raft as an affordable way to enjoy the boating and fishing experience.
